Dogodo Bau blasts unbeaten century for Diggers- Hebou Shield Day 4 Wrap

The Diggers finish Day 1 on 4/280 thanks to a brilliant century from Dogodo Bau while the Sharks defeated the Piranas by 57 runs in a high scoring affair in the Hebou Shield at Amini Park today.

 

In the second Hebou Shield Men’s 3-Day Division match, the Diggers were sent into bat by the Hammers on a warm day at Amini Park. The decision by the Hammers backfired when the Diggers reached 4/280 at stumps on Day 1. Dogodo Bau was the star with the bat for the Diggers, belting a stylish unbeaten 115 runs which included 13 boundaries and a massive six. Bau was ably supported by Tom Willie who made a superb 77 runs, while Tony Ura (25) and Lega Siaka (19) also made valuable runs. Willie Gavera was the standout with the ball for the Hammers taking 3/51 while Vagi Boko (1/59) picked up the other wicket.

Bau and Kiplin Doriga (38*) will resume their innings, searching for quick runs tomorrow for the Diggers, while Hammers will be looking for quick wickets.

 

In the third Hebou Shield Women’s 40 Over Division match, the Sharks batted first against the Piranas at Amini Park #2 (Bisini), posting a record 7/238 off their allotted 40 overs. Openers Brenda Tau (78) and Naoani Vare (50) were the stars with the bat for the Sharks, putting on 124 runs for the opening wicket, while Konio Oala (25), Sibona Jimmy (17) and Valo Lega (16) also made valuable contributions. This was Tau’s second half century of the competition after making 65 runs in the previous match against the Diamonds. With the ball Tanya Ruma (3/30) and Puana Siaka (3/59) both picked up three (3) wickets each for the Piranas.

 

In reply, the Piranas got off to a disastrous start, slumping to 3/18 in the sixth over, before Tanya Ruma (81) and Helen Buruka (51) turned the match on its head by adding 119 runs for the fourth wicket. When Konio Oala dismissed Buruka, the Piranas collapsed to be bowled out for 181 in 37.4 overs. Ravini Oa (3/14) and Geua Tom (2/27) were the pick of the Sharks bowlers.

 

The HEBOU Shield- Cricket PNG’s Premier First Class Competition. The HEBOU Shield Men’s Competition will be divided into two (2) divisions- 3 Day and 50 Over Competitions, while the Women’s Division will be divided into two (2) divisions- 40 Over and T20 Competitions.
