Sharks dominate while Diggers and Hammers play out a draw- Hebou Shield Day 3 Wrap

Sharks defeated the Diamonds by 77 runs while the Diggers and Hammers played out an exciting draw in the Hebou Shield today.

 

Resuming the final day of their 3-Day fixture on 0/107 at Amini Park, the Hammers piled on the runs to be eventually dismissed for 329 in less than 79 overs. Opening batsmen Vani Vagi Morea and Jason Kila top scored, scoring 69 runs apiece, while John Boge Reva (41) and an unbeaten 48 from Nosiana Pokana made valuable runs down the order. Norman Vanua was the pick of the Diggers’ bowlers taking 3/87 while Lega Siaka (2/19), Pipi Raho (2/52) and Damien Ravu (2/64) all picked up two (2) wickets each.

 

Requiring 169 runs for an unlikely outright victory in the last hour of play, the Diggers managed to score 3/99 with Kiplin Doriga unbeaten on 50 runs, while Mahuru Dai (2/14) picked up two (2) wickets.     

 

In the Hebou Shield Women’s 40 Over Division, the Sharks smashed the Diamonds by 77 runs at Amini Park #2 (Bisini). Batting first, the Sharks posted 3/181 off their allotted 40 overs thanks to a brilliant half-centuries from Brenda Tau (65) and Valo Lega (51*). Three (3) Diamonds bowers took a wicket each- Pauke Siaka (1/33), Henao Thomas (1/33) and Mairi Tom (1/35).     

 

In reply, the Sharks’ bowling attack was to strong, dismissing the Diamonds for only 104 in 22.2 overs. Kopi John (30) and Mairi Tom (16) were the main contributors with the bat for the Diamonds while Lega backed up her batting performance taking 3/7 with the ball.

The HEBOU Shield- Cricket PNG’s Premier First Class Competition. The HEBOU Shield Men’s Competition will be divided into two (2) divisions- 3 Day and 50 Over Competitions, while the Women’s Division will be divided into two (2) divisions- 40 Over and T20 Competitions.
