The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas thumped Japan by 92 runs the fifth round of the ICC Women’s World T20 East Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier in Sano, Japan on Wednesday 3rd May, 2017.

Needing to win by a healthy margin against Japan to keep themselves in the hunt in the ICC Women’s World T20 EAP Qualifier, the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas were sent into bat on another pleasant day in Sano. Lewas’ opening batswomen Tanya Ruma (33) and Sibona Jimmy (30) showed their intensions early,  putting on a brisk 64-run opening partnership in search of a big team score. After their dismissals, Konio Oala (28 off 15 balls) and an unbeaten 28 runs from only 22 balls from Brenda Tau guided the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas to their biggest score of the tournament, 6/155 off their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Japan were not able to contain the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas’ bowling attack, being bowled out for only 63 runs in 13.2 overs. Jimmy was star with the ball for the Lewas taking 4/13 off three (3) overs, while Mairi Tom (2/13) and Vicky Araa (1/2) were the other wicket takers. Not surprisingly, Sibona Jimmy was named Player of the Match with her great all-round performance.

In the other match, undefeated Samoa scraped home against an improved Vanuatu outfit by four (4) wickets.

These results have played a significant role in the tournament, with the winner of the final round match between Samoa and the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas being named champions of the ICC Women’s WT20 EAP Qualifier. In the other final round match, hosts Japan will take on Samoa.

The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas is one (1) of the four (4) teams taking part in the ICC Women’s World T20 East Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier in Japan from the 28th April to the 5th May, 2017. The other teams being: Samoa (2015 Pacific Games Gold Medallist), Vanuatu and hosts, Japan.
