The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas fought off a determined Vanuatu in the fourth round of the ICC Women’s World T20 East Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier in Sano, Japan on Tuesday 2nd May, 2017 to win by five (5) wickets.

In another crucial match in the tournament, the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas’ captain, Pauke Siaka decided to send Vanuatu into bat and was able to restrict Vanuatu to only 8/81 off their allotted 20 overs thanks to another tight and disciplined bowling effort by the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas. Judy Avok was the star with the bat for Vanuatu, becoming the first batswomen of the tournament to bat through the innings, scoring a 75 ball, 45 runs. Selina Solomon (10) was the only other Vanuatu batswomen to score double figures, while Ravini Oa (2/10), Sibona Jimmy (2/13) and Kaia Arua (2/13) all picked up two (2) wickets for the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas.

Needing quick runs to ensure their Net Run Rate (NRR) improves, the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas elevated hard hitting all-rounder, Konio Oala to open the batting, but unfortunately for the Lewas, Oala was run-out for only five runs, and when Tastuki trapped in-form Tanya Ruma (1), the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas were in trouble at 2/18 in 3.4 overs. Then the Lewas steadied and thanks to Siaka (33), Jimmy (14) and an unbeaten 21 runs from Veru Kila Frank ensured that that the Lewas were able to chase the total down in only 14.3 overs and record their third victory of the tournament. Siaka was awarded the Player of the Match Award for her innings.

In the morning match, undefeated Samoa chased down Japan’s low total of 49 runs in less than ten (10) overs to remain in first position on eight (8) points after four (4) rounds. The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas remain in second position on six (6) points, while Vanuatu (2 points) and Japan (0 points) are in third and fourth positions respectively.
