The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas got their ICC Women’s World T20 East Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier campaign off to a perfect start with an easy nine (9) wicket victory over Vanuatu on the opening day in Sano, Japan on Friday 28th April, 2017.

Batting first Vanuatu were unable to get on top of a strong City Pharmacy PNG Lewas’ bowling attack, eventually being bowled out for a modest 80 runs in 19.5 overs. Ravini Oa was the chief destroyer with the ball for the Lewas taking an impressive 4/14 off only 3.5 overs. Oa was ably supported spin twins Sibona Jimmy (1/8) and Kaia Arua (1/9) who strangled the Vanuatu batswomen, going for around 2 runs per over. Alvina Chilia was the only Vanuatu batswomen who showed some fight, hitting 24 runs off 35 balls.

In reply, the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas had no troubles chasing down the meek 81 runs in only eleven (11) overs, losing just one (1) wicket on the way. Veterans Pauke Siaka (31* off 30 balls) and Tanya Ruma (20* off 32 balls) put on an unbeaten 70 runs for the second wicket to guide the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas to victory. Siaka was awarded the Player of the Match Award.

Speaking after the match, Ravini Oa was very pleased with her efforts and the efforts of the City Pharmacy PNG Lewas against Vanuatu.

“I was very happy, with the bowling partnership with Sibona (Jimmy). We did a good job. Going into the match we had a plan to attack when bowling and attach when fielding as well,” said Oa.

In the morning match, Samoa easily defeated hosts, Japan by ten (10) wickets.

The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas will take on Samoa today in the second round while Japan will take on Vanuatu in the afternoon match.

The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas will be one (1) of the four (4) teams taking part in the ICC Women’s World T20 East Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier in Japan from the 28th April to the 5th May, 2017. The other teams being: Samoa (2015 Pacific Games Gold Medallist), Vanuatu and hosts, Japan.
