HEBOU PNG Barramundis lose T20I series to UAE

Cricket Papua New Guinea, Tue Apr 18, 2017 8:05AM

The HEBOU PNG Barramundis finished their tough tour of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), losing their final two (2) Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) to the hosts last Friday 14th April in Abu Dhabi to lose the T20I series 3-0.

In the second T20 International, UAE batted first and got off to a disastrous start with HEBOU PNG Barramundis opening bowler, Norman Vanua bowling out Rohan Mustafa (4) and Mohammad Naveed (4) in the first over of the match. This was the only hiccup for UAE, with the hosts piling on the runs to post a mammoth 3/180 off their allotted 20 overs, mainly thanks to an unbeaten century from Shaiman Anwar (117* off 68 balls). In reply HEBOU PNG Barramundis opening batsmen Tony Ura (20 off 13) and Lega Siaka (25 off 14 balls) got the visitors off to flying start, racing to 42 runs in 3.3 overs before Ura was dismissed by Amjad Javed. The Barramundis continued their momentum in the middle order with Jack Vare-Kevere (38 off 36 balls) and Sese Bau (30 off 22 balls) making valuable contributions with the bat, but unfortunately the task was too big, with the visitors falling 30 runs short.  Mohammad Naveed (3/18) and Amjad Javed (3/38) were the pick of the UAE bowlers picking up three (3) wickets each.

In the third and final T20I played in the afternoon, the HEBOU PNG Barramundis were restricted to 5/128 off their allotted 20 overs with the top five (5) batsmen all making starts. In reply, the UAE innings started identical to their previous match with Norman Vanua picking up two (2) wickets in the first over, and when Chad Soper (1/20) dismissed the century maker from the previous match, Shaiman Anwar (1) in the second over, UAE slumped to 3/6. Muhammad Usman (58 off 49 balls) and Rameez Shahzad (47 off 47 balls) then took the match away from the HEBOU PNG Barramundis, putting on a 100 run fourth wicket partnership. After their dismissals, Adnan Mufti (7*) and Ghulam Shabber (10*) then guided the hosts to victory in the final over of the match. Vanua (3/35) was the pick of the Barramundis bowlers, picking up three (3) wickets.

The HEBOU PNG Barramundis flew back into Port Moresby on Sunday, finishing the month long tour with a 2-1 defeat in the One Day Internationals (ODIs), defeat in the Round 5 ICC Inter-Continental Cup (ICUP) and a 3-0 defeat in the T20I series.
