UAE in driving seat against HEBOU PNG Barramundis in ICUP

The HEBOU PNG Barramundis are fighting hard to stay in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Round 4 Intercontinental Cup (ICUP) fixture against United Arab Emirates (UAE), with the hosts leading by 105 runs at stumps on Day 2 in Abu Dhabi.

 

After winning the toss on Friday, HEBOU PNG Barramundis’ Captain, Assad Vala had no hesitation to bat first in warm conditions in Abu Dhabi. Unfortunately for the HEBOU PNG Barramundis’, their innings mirrored their previous matches on tour with a majority of their batsmen making starts without making big scores to be eventually bowled out for only 194 late on Friday. Eight out of the top nine batsmen made double figures, with Jack Vare (38) and Chad Soper (38) top scoring, batting down the order. The UAE bowlers kept the pressure on the HEBOU PNG Barramundis batsmen with Ahmed Raza (3/38), Qadeer Ahmed (3/45), Mohammad Naveed (2/43) and Imran Haider (2/50) sharing the wickets.

 

After surviving a tricky period late on Day 1, the UAE openings started day 2 on 0/14 and continued to post a half century opening partnership with UAE Captain, Rohan Mustafa (41) and Laxman Sreekumar (37) making valuable contributions. Overall the UAE batsmen were able to negate the discipline HEBOU PNG Barramundis attack to be 6/299 at stumps on Day 2. Mohammad Usman (103) was the star for the hosts hitting a brilliant century with Rameez Shahzad (63) supporting Usman with a classy half century. Mahuru Dai (3/83) was the pick of the HEBOU PNG Barramundis bowlers taking three wickets on a tough day for the visitors, while Vala (1/24), Nosiana Pokana (1/33) and Soper (1/40) picked up a wicket each.

 

Saqlain Haider (14*) and Ahmed Raza (5*) will resuming their innings today, with UAE leading by 106 runs in the 1st Innings.    

 

Currently the HEBOU PNG Barramundis are in fourth (4th) place on 40 points on the ICC ICUP Standings, while UAE are in eighth (8th) position on 7 points.
