HEBOU PNG Barramundis Squad announced for UAE Tour

Cricket Papua New Guinea, Tue Mar 14, 2017 4:48PM

The HEBOU PNG Barramundis Squad that will be touring the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this month was announced today at Amini Park.

The fourteen (14) man HEBOU PNG Barramundis squad will be lead by Assad Vala with the majority of the squad being based in Port Moresby. Chad Soper (Sydney, Australia) is the only player that is based outside of Port Moresby where he plays Sydney 1st Grade Cricket for Gordon CC.

Jack Vare-Kevere and Norman Vanua are the only two (2) inclusions to the HEBOU PNG Barramundis Squad that toured Sydney and Canberra last month, replacing Vagi Boko Kora and Pipi Raho.

CPNG’s Chairman of Selectors, Daniel Faunt was excited at this upcoming tour.

"Given the importance of this tour to our World Cup qualification hopes we believe this is the strongest possible squad we could have assembled. We have included Jack Vare as an additional batting option and whilst we have retained Assad Vala as Captain, Jacks leadership and big game experience will be invaluable for the squad. Norman Vanua is fit and comes back into the team as one of our frontline seamers. We are confident that this squad will deliver results across all formats against UAE,” said Faunt.

The HEBOU PNG Barramundis will fly into Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday 18th March, where they will play three (3) warm-up matches against English County Teams, before taking on hosts, UAE in three (3) One Day Internationals, an Inter-Continental Cup (ICUP) and three (3) Twenty20 Internationals. The first two (2) out of the three (3) ODIs will be ICC World Cricket League Championship matches.

The selectors are also pleased that the squad will benefit from the lead up matches against strong English County squads which will help our continued development,” concluded Faunt.

Currently the HEBOU PNG Barramundis are in fourth (4th) place on 40 points on the ICC ICUP Standings, while UAE are in eighth (8th) position on 7 points. In the WCLC Standings, the HEBOU PNG Barramundis are in second (2nd) position on 12 points and UAE are in eighth (8th) position on only 2 points.
