The City Pharmacy PNG Lewas lost their final practice match at the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier by nine (9) wickets to Thailand at the Moors Cricket Ground in Colombo on Sunday 5th February, 2017.
Resting City Pharmacy PNG Lewas’ Captain, Pauke Siaka in their final warm-up match, the Lewas were skittled for only 74 runs in 23 overs, with only Tanya Ruma (18) and Veru Frank (10) making it into double figures while S Laomi (3/6), S Laleh (2/14) and S Tippoch (2/24) were the best bowlers for Thailand.
“Pauke (Siaka) rested with a slight hamstring strain and Tanya (Ruma) won the toss and we elected to bat,” said City Pharmacy PNG Lewas Coach, Cathryn Fitzpatrick.
“The run out of Norma (Ovasuru) in the first over had us on the back foot from the get go and we never really recovered, losing wickets at a regular pace and only managing 74 and lasting 23 overs,” said Fitzpatrick.
In reply, Thailand had no problem chasing down the small total, taking just 15.3 overs and only losing one (1) wicket. N Chantum (31) and S Saengsakaomt (28*) made most of the runs, while City Pharamcy PNG Lewas’ off-spinner, Sibona Jimmy (1/14) took the only Thailand wicket.
“Needing ten (10) wickets to win the game, we gave Konio (Oala) the new ball and she provided good pace. The Thailand batters dealt swiftly with and loose deliveries and easily accounted for the total in the 16th over,” concluded Fitzpatrick.
In other practice matches, Pakistan defeated hosts Sri Lanka by three (3) wickets at MCA Grounds, South Africa defeated India by six (6) wickets at P. Sara Ground, Bangladesh defeated Ireland by 39 runs at NCC Ground and Zimbabwe defeated Scotland by 95 runs at CCC Ground.
